Freemax Twister 80W Starter Kit
FreeMax Twister 80W Starter Kit
Tube style mods with built in batteries are incredibly popular with new vapers who like their simplicity and compact size - and the Twister 80W Starter Kit is the latest offering from FreeMax. The kit includes the 80W Twister mod coupled with a Fireluke 2 subohm mesh tank. The two products come nicely presented in a slip case with two separate boxes held inside, the first contains the Twister mod and the second holds the Fireluke 2 tank.
The kit comes in a variety of colors (black, white, yellow, red , green and blue) with a bold graffiti theme on both the mod and tank which I suspect is intended to appeal more to the twenty-something’s out there rather than a middle aged man like myself. The decoration is completed by using a water transfer process which should hopefully prove to be durable in long term use. The designs certainly stand out from the crowd although I would have liked to see a couple of more sober offerings, perhaps in plain carbon fiber for example, I must admit that I found the blue kit sent in for review rather fetching and the design grew on me over the time I used it for the purposes of this review.
Also included in the boxes are the usual assortment of paperwork, a USB lead and and some spare o-rings for the tank.
Twister 80W mod
Now onto the star of the show, the Twister 80w mod.
- Size: 24.7mm x 101.6mm
- Battery capacity: 2300mAh
- Output wattage: 5 to 80W
- Output voltage: 0.5 to 9 volts
- Output current: 1 to 30 amps
- Resistance range: 0.1 to 3 ohms
- Power efficiency: 95%
- Firing speed: 0.01 seconds
This is a fairly compact mod at just 102mm tall thanks to the built in 2300mAh 20600 battery.
Up top is a nicely spring loaded 510 connector in a 24mm platform. Anything up to 24mm will look good on here but you will have overhang with anything larger.
On the front you have the fire button with an led surround to give you status indicators and on the back you have a micro USB connector for charging. On the bottom there's a large twister logo and holes for battery venting should anything go wrong.
Most of these stick style mods are simple regulated bypass mods, in other words they simply dump the voltage available in the battery to your atty which means as the battery drains your vape will get weaker. On the bottom of the Twister mod there's an adjustment wheel which gives this mod it's name. Wattage can be adjusted from 5w to 80w and the wheel has click stops every 5w. You can adjust the wattage in 1w steps but it really wants to stop at those 5w intervals. This is definitely a welcome addition to this style of mod giving you the power adjustment you want without adding screens a buttons which would detract from the appearance of the kit.
The usual 5 clicks will turn the mod on and off. The surrounding status led gives you indicators of the battery status and error states etc. The indicator also lights up red for charging and will go off once fully charged.
